Initially when I started thinking about growing CPs I came to know that the media I will be needing is either Sphagnum moss or peat moss, so I tried finding it alot but didnt succeed and found only grass moss or coco peat, out of which grass moss was not the right thing to grow CPs in and coco peat(made of coconut husk or coirs) was very high in salt content(almost 300 PPM) which leads to burning of roots. I was looking for sphagnum or peat moss everywhere but every where I came across coco peat only.
I started searching online to find some source and also inquired online from international sellers about the cost and shipping, it was little hard to import small amount of sphagnum moss as it was costing alot and also it required certificates from government authority to import it. I had to cancel the option of importing sphagnum moss mainly due of not being in mood of going through the tedious paper work or employee of the government authority. I tried using Soilrite mix which was available in plenty here till I was able to find a source of Sphagnum moss and it worked well too.

Hi nice to see your blog, even i am interseted in plants, have a large collection of aquatic/terrestial plants. I was googling for carnivorous plants when I stumbled on your blog. I would really appreciate it if I could get some info on how to get some seeds/plants in India. Did you purchase it online or got it from some fellow hobbyists.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Robin
Hi Robin,
ReplyDeleteSorry for late reply I was out of town,Well
I bought seeds from other countries such as Poland, Australia, Hungary etc as I couldn't find any seller here. As of right now I have some 2-3 sundew,1 Sarracennia, 2 Nepenthes plants with me, I have collected some seeds from my plants also I have some seeds which I received in trade. If you are interested I can give you seeds for free but you will have to take care of postage which can be 5-10 rs for normal post to 30rs for speed post. I can also try sending you some leaf cutting which also a propagation method. Remember one thing you will have to have lots of patience with seeds as they can take 2-3 months some time to germinate. If you want to ask more please feel free to write here or you can mail me at bigvm3@gmail.com
